Get To Know Caro

Meet Carolina Feinstein, mother, designer and co-founder of Caro Home.

Since her childhood in Argentina, design has been an essential part of Carolina's life. And like many of us, she balances both work life and family. Read on, as Carolina shares her approach on motherhood, design and running a company - and how those passions come together.

Where do you find inspiration?

I get inspiration from many difference places, there's never just one recipe for creativity. It also depends on the moment, the best ideas come from being out in the world. It could be on an overseas trip, walking along a street, or sitting on a beach. Often, I am the most creatively open at the beach.

Your twins, Thomas and Camila are a huge inspiration for you. Tell us more...

I love watching and listening to Camila appreciate beauty. She likes all the same things that I am inspired by. When I'm working, she likes to pick colors and yarns with me. And Thomas always wants to be a part of everything, too. He recently created an office space next to mine so he can "work" with me. He says, "Mommy, we have too much to do!"

How has motherhood influenced how you've built your company?

When the twins turned one, it became very hard to balance work and motherhood. I was spread too thin. I was also at a point in my career where I needed to be original and find a new voice. I wanted to create an environment at Caro Home where people can come to work and be happy about what they do, from our in-house team to the factories we work with. The only way to create a business is to have mutual respect and form relationships. I care about the people I work with and they care about me.

Building an amazing team that supports this vision is the key to moving forward, otherwise, it would be impossible. We wake up wanting to do our best and then we make it happen. We need to create everyday and don't have time to put ideas on the back burner because we are in a business that is constantly evolving.

You have had a very successful design career. Since starting Caro Home, how has your design evolved?

I live a very dynamic life that influences my design. I am constantly evolving and perfecting our vision.

I've become known for innovation and find myself always trying new things, like fresh new color palettes or new textures. I'm always pushing the looms to see what we can do naturally when we design our textiles. I like to take ideas from different places and give them a twist. I love textures that are inspired by different weaves, scale and color. This is where we excel and is our signature.

In addition to your main collection, you are also designing a brand for kids, Caro Kids. Tell us more...

As a mom, I wanted to design products for kids that will grow along with them. I like calm design, especially for the bathroom since it's such a soothing place. With that in mind, we designed color palettes that support that philosophy - it's beautiful to the eye. We are very careful when we develop color. We have pinks, but they are fresh and different. Kids will love the product and parents will, too.

Which product are you most excited about launching?

I love our stripes and unique textures. They are signature to Caro Home. I want us to be the destination for home textiles.

What has been the most rewarding part about starting your own company?

Being able to create our brand and voice. I wouldn't change anything. It's amazing what we've accomplished in a short period of time, and there is so much more to do. The sky is the limit!

Stay tuned for Part II of our interview with Carolina, where we will hear about her early years in Argentina and her design career in New York City.
